Melissa Barker is the Internal Trauma Program Manager for the Trauma Burn Center and Division of Acute Care Surgery. Melissa has 17 years of trauma nursing experience. She began her nursing career at Hurley Medical Center in the Neuro/Trauma ICU. She came to the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center in 1998. Since that time, she has worked as a bedside nurse, charge nurse, interim Educational Nurse Coordinator, Clinical Research Coordinator, and now the Trauma Program Manager. In this role, Melissa's many responsibilities include daily oversight of process and performance improvement activities for the Trauma Burn Program, manage weekly Multidisciplinary Trauma Conference and monthly Quality of Care Committee Meetings, participate in weekly Multidisciplinary Trauma Burn Grand Rounds, ensure UMHS compliance with updated requirements of the American College of Surgeons' Burn Center and Level 1 Trauma Center Verification Review Programs, coordinate Burn Center and Level 1 Trauma Center verification processes and site visits in collaboration with the External Trauma Program Manager. |
